Hello, and Greetings from third grade. My name is Debra Henry and I have been teaching at Iowa Valley for the past 27 years. I graduated from the University of Northern Iowa with a K – 6 teaching degree, and received my Masters as a Reading Specialist from Teikyo/ Marycrest University.
My husband, Patrick, and I live in South Amana. We have a son, Karl, who is a Manufacturing Engineer and lives in Burnsville, MN, a daughter, Katie, who attends the University of Northern Iowa studying to be a teacher, and another son, Andrew, who is attending the University of Iowa studying Bio-Chemistry.
Third grade is an exciting year with lots of new things being taught. I am responsible for teaching social studies and my teaching partner, Mr. Shade, teaches Science. The rest of the academic studies are done in each of our classrooms. I try to incorporate technology as much as possible and will do at least one research project a year. Some of the topics they will learn this year are cursive, growing plants, multiplication, division, government, and poetry. They will also visit the Iowa Capital building and State Historical Building in Des Moines as well as the Amanas.
