I am a graduate of Iowa Valley High School. While at Iowa Valley I was involved in Concert Band (tuba), Jazz Band (trombone), Marching Band (Drum Major), Speech, Drama, Thespians, National Honor Society, Football, and Wrestling.
After high school, I attended Coe College to pursuit my degree in Music Education. In college I served as a band librarian and worked for the music department. I was named Captain of the Walahroo Drum Line for my Junior and Senior year. This ensemble was entirely student run and performed at all home football games. During my time at Coe, I became a member of the Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, a music Fraternity. While in this fraternity I served as the set up director and Jazz Summit Chair. These positions were very important to the fraternity. The group was hired by the music department to do all set up and tear down operations for the performing ensembles. This was a fundraising opportunity for the fraternity. I was in charge of the scheduling and execution of all set ups/tear downs. Every year Coe hosts the annual Jazz Summit. The fraternity works with the music department to ensure everything runs smoothly. I worked closely with the head of the music department to make arrangements for the event. I graduated Coe with my Bachelors of Music in Music Education in May of 2010.
After college I spent time as a substitute teacher primarily in the Cedar Rapids/Marion area. In June of 2011 I was hired by Belle Plaine High School as the Director of Music. While at Belle Plaine, I was in charge of all of the vocal and instrumental performing ensembles from grades 7-12. The High School Concert Band received Division I ratings at the State Large Group Festival all three years while I was the director. The High School Concert Choir received a Division I rating in 2012, this was their first Division I since 2004.
I now serve as the Director of Bands for Iowa Valley. I will continue to work hard to ensure I provide the best music education to my students.
