Hello!  My name is Susan Zozaya and this is my 15th year teaching at Iowa Valley!  I graduated from Wartburg College with an elementary education degree and a reading endorsement.  I live in Fairfax with my husband Ron and my daughter Isabelle.

In second grade, students switch classrooms for science and social studies.  They have Mrs. Kooiker for social studies and I teach science.  There are many hands-on learning experiments with the science kits.  We learn about air/weather, soil, and balance/motion.

We are also busy learning strategies to decode words, improve reading fluency, and to comprehend what we are reading.  The students are excited to practice their reading skills using our Renaissance Reader program.  They take accelerated reader quizzes over the books that they have independently read.

In math, students review time, money, place value, and counting patterns.  We will also learn how to subtract with regrouping and begin to multiply and divide.

I have been very fortunate to work with a great staff and community!  Go Tigers!
