Welcome Tiger faithful to the 2015-16 school year!
Hard to believe but this fall will begin my 7th year here at Iowa Valley and with each new year brings new excitement! I must be sure to include my family in this welcome message, as they have been along in my educational journey and experiences. My wife Trisha of 29 years, who has worked for the University of Iowa for over 20 years! Together we have three children, with twin boys; Craig and Drew-now married to Alicia and a daughter Cara-now married to Grant Harris we are lucky to have two grandchildren in Boston and Jersey! My wife and I are avid football, wrestling and track fans and follow the Nebraska Huskers and Iowa Hawkeyes, along with me supporting the San Francisco Giants baseball team.
At Iowa Valley we begin this year with a new superintendent in Donita Joens, Mrs. Joens comes to us from the River Valley School District, so please don't hesitate to stop by and welcome her to our district! We also are excited to be selected along with 74 other school districts in Iowa to join the TLC (Teacher Leadership Consortium) grant, we along with the 39 school districts that were selected in the first year. This grant brings new beginnings for several teacher leaders of our district, beginning with Patty Miles who has been chosen as our Instructional Coach for the district, she will be joined by several others to form our teacher leadership team which together will help drive our professional development and instructional focus and integrity this year! Her previous position as K-12 teacher/librarian has been filled by Stacie Christner, Stacie comes to us from a local school district so we are excited to welcome Stacie to our district! Our turnover/replacement ratio here at IV is very low annually, and I attribute that to the wonderful culture we've created here in combination with our students and parents!
We offer many opportunities for our students to be involved in the overall experience of education here at Iowa Valley with 14 varsity sports along with instrumental band and chorus, color guard, cheerleading, pep club and student council! We also have club activities that students are encouraged to be a part of throughout their experience here and we also have many students that involve themselves in community volunteerism as well as local supportive ventures. Here at IV we also pride ourselves in supporting our community through two yearly community service days each year and also are always looking at additional ways of "paying it forward" to our wonderful community!
In closing, I want to make sure that if any questions arise or ideas surface that you believe will help make our district even better please don't hesitate to give us a call!
Yours in education and respect, Shawn Kreman
