JOIN THE PRIDE: Open Enroll to Iowa Valley Community School District!

OPEN ENROLLMENT OPEN FOR THE 2024-2025 SCHOOL YEAR!
Iowa Valley Community School District is accepting Open Enrollment applications for all grade levels for the 2024-2025 school year!

OPEN ENROLLMENT
Open Enrollment is the process by which parents/guardians residing in an Iowa district may enroll their children into another Iowa school district under the terms and conditions of Iowa Code section 282.18 and 281–Iowa Administrative Code 17.

APPLICATION INFORMATION AND DEADLINES:

If a parent or guardian wishes to open enroll their child(ren), they must:

  • Complete and submit an application for each child in their family, and
  • Send the application to both the resident and receiving school districts.

LINKS TO APPLICATION AND MORE INFORAMTION:

IMPORTANT NOTES:

  • A parent or guardian must file an open enrollment request for each child in the family.
  • A parent or guardian may apply to more than one school district at the same time.
  • Parents must notify (in writing) the districts concerned if there is any change in the student's residence during the open enrollment period.
  • Parents must notify (in writing) the districts concerned if terminating open enrollment.

House File (HF) 2589 eliminates the March 1 deadline for open enrollment. This change allows parents/guardians to apply for open enrollment at any time without the need for good cause. The receiving district may deny an open enrollment request if one of the following applies:

  • The application violates the district’s insufficient classroom space policy,
  • The district does not have the appropriate special education program,
  • The application would adversely affect the district’s implementation of a court-ordered desegregation plan, or
  • The student has been expelled or suspended.

DISTRICT OVERVIEW
Located 30 miles southwest of Cedar Rapids and 30 miles west of Iowa City, along Highway 6, the Iowa Valley Community School District covers over 104 square miles of beautiful north-central Iowa County along the Iowa River. Our rural public school district encompasses the towns of Marengo (population 2,500), and the unincorporated area of Koszta, Iowa. The district serves over 500 students in PK-12.

MISSION
The mission of the Iowa Valley Community School District is to provide a safe, comfortable, clean, and caring environment where community and staff work together to provide an education that will maximize each individual’s potential, instill a sense of self-worth, and prepare them for life-long learning.

THERE ARE TWO ATTENDANCE CENTERS:

  • Iowa Valley Jr./Sr. High School (229 students 7-12)
  • Iowa Valley Elementary (261 students K-6)

Each attendance center has a full-time building principal as well as a full-time school counselor. With 44 dedicated teachers, the district boasts a staff retention rate well above the state average. The staff is invested in the district and community; providing the best education possible for all students.

The continued community support of education is evidenced by the voters passing major facility and school district construction projects to support the growing needs of the district. In 2023, voters passed a $10.6 million bond to provide funds to renovate, repair, remodel, improve, furnish, and equip the existing Elementary and Junior/Senior High School buildings.
